For a movie about makeup for Your Personal Shopper TV, I recently met top makeup artist Marion Willemsen. Marion has been working as a professional makeup artist for a long time (19 years). She works for Stage Entertainment and so she has given already a lot of musical stars a fitting make-up. Musicals like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and currently The Bodyguard. She also works as a freelance make-up artist for TV shows such as Flikken Maastricht, but she is involved in film shoots as well. At the moment, she is part of the make-up team of Gangsterdam (with o.a.Rutger Hauer). What an honor she’s is doing my makeup! A top makeup artist who, incidentally, gives very good tips as well, that I like to share with you. The result of the new makeup you’ll see later on my blog.
1. Always buy foundation in two colors
A face has multiple shades. Moreover, the tone of your skin changes during the seasons. In January, your skin looks paler than in summer. You can mix those two shades of foundation all year. You put a little bit of every shade on the back of your hand, then mix it with a brush. You get the best result when you apply it also with a brush. Make sure you work from the inside out, so start in the middle. Afterward, you can easily clean your brushes easily with some water and baby shampoo, leave them to dry flat.
2. How do I find the right shade for my skin?
You can easily test it on the side of your face, on your jaw. If the foundation blends well you’ve got the right color. Foundation has to be the same color as your skin or slightly lighter. What is also important: women who are slightly older, should mainly use a somewhat transparent foundation!
3. What is important when bying eyeshadow or blusher?
Eyeshadow in powder form must not be too loose, it should be compact so that it stays well on your eyelid. You can easily test this in the store: put a little powder on a brush, then gently blow it, and see if most of it remains on the brush. If that’s the case, you can be sure it will also last longer on your eyelid. The same goes for blusher. Before applying it to your face, you can remove the excess powder from the brush by blowing it softly.
4. What about an eye pencil?
First of all, you should use a waterproof eye pencil. You can soften any hard lines easily with a cotton swab. It’s also very suitable for older women, who can get watery eyes from time to time.
5. What tips do you have for eyebrows?
Eyebrows are the most important part of one’s face. They determine the appearance and character. Therefore it’s important to care for them properly. Shapewise it’s important that your eyebrow starts just above the inner corner of your eye. Diva Derme, is a great product to shape and define your eyebrows. It’s a powder you can apply easily using the corresponding brush. You can also use a pencil, which has to be quite hard. To keep the eyebrows in shape, you can use a gel. The better the eyebrows are finished, the better you can see one’s eyes!
